چکیده

Introduction Germline polymorphisms in several genes important to the pathogenesis of prostate cancer have been associated with an increased incidence of disease. A recently identified tumor suppressor gene, PTEN/MMAC1/TEP1, may also have an important role in prostate carcinogenesis and progression. Previous reports have demonstrated frequent loss of PTEN expression in localized prostate cancer specimens, which have been associated with poor prognostic clinical features (1, 2). In breast cancer patients with a positive family history of disease, there was no increased association with PTEN mutations. However, a frequent polymorphism, referred to as IVS4, located at 2101109ins5, in which an ACTAA insertion occurs 109 bp downstream of exon 4 in intron 4, was associated with a lower mean age of diagnosis (3). Therefore, we performed a casecontrol study nested within the Physicians’ Health Study to determine whether this particular polymorphism was associated with risk of prostate cancer or with clinical features of aggressive disease.

ارتباط پلی مرفیسم IVS4 ژن PTEN با سرطان پستان زنان ایرانی

Abstract Background: Inactivation of tumor suppressor genes can cause irreversible uncontrolled growth. PTEN is a tumor suppressor gene and its polymorphism (IVS4) role in breast cancer was investigated in this study. Methods: Forty nine female subjects with confirmed breast cancer comprised the case group and 43 healthy women participated as a control group in this study. The PTEN polymor...

Impact of PTEN IVS4 Polymorphism (rs3830675) on Cancer Susceptibility: An Updated Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND/AIM Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) acts as a tumor suppressor gene through the action of its phosphatase protein product. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate their relationship. MATERIALS AND METHODS A comprehensive database search was performed. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to assess the association between PTEN IVS4 polymorphism ...

Association between PTEN Gene IVS4 Polymorphism and Risk of Cancer: A Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) is a well established tumor suppressor gene. Recently, increasing studies investigated the association between PTEN IVS4 polymorphism (rs3830675) and risk of various types of cancer. However, the results from the individual studies were controversial. The aim of this meta-analysis was to elucidate whether PTEN IVS4 polymorphism was associated wit...

PTEN Gene Expression and Its Association with rs10490920 SNP in Breast Cancer

Introduction: The PTEN gene, also known as MMAC1 or TEP1, is a tumor suppressor gene. One of the important polymorphisms of this gene is the rs10490920 SNP. The purpose of this study was to determine the PTEN gene expression and its relation to changes in rs10490920 polymorphism in breast cancer. Methods: In this study, 40 breast cancer patients and 10 healthy controls were considered. The expr...

Association of the PTEN IVS4 (rs3830675) gene polymorphism with reduced risk of cancer: evidence from a meta-analysis.

PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homologue), as a tumor suppressor gene, plays a significant role in regulating cell growth, proliferation, and apoptosis. Results from published studies for association between the PTEN IVS4 I/D (rs3830675) polymorphism and cancer risk are inconsistent and inconclusive. We therefore conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the potential association between PTEN IVS4 I/...
